Two day Training session on ‘Environment in the EU: Funding Mechanisms and Policy Processes’ was organized in Istanbul, Turkey on 7-8 May 2014. Training was delivered by ENV.net partners, TEMA, punto.sud and EEB and targeted key staff and volunteers of Turkish Environmental CSOs (NGOs/CBOs, youth organizations, academic institutions, and other type of non-profit organizations).
The main objective of the course was to provide a general understanding of the funding mechanisms within EU and enable participants to actively participate in call for proposals launched by the European Commission and the EU Delegations for projects to be implemented in Turkey or abroad.
The course also aimed to familiarize participants with selected EU policy areas, highlighting possibilities to be better informed and identify channels how they can contribute to the national and EU policy making.
There were 25 participants from 18 different cities from all over Turkey that attended the two day training. First day of the Training started with a welcome session where participants and facilitators get to know each other.
Day continued with the official from ENV.net partner punto.sud, Federico Bastia held three consecutive sessions on:
To improve knowledge of EU programming and funding system
To better perform in participating in EU calls for proposals
To understand how to get involved in the work on the environmental policy
To know more about decision-making processes at national and the EU levels
Second day of the Training was delivered by the official from ENV.net partner EBB, Mara Silina. Two sessions delivered by her included topics on:
Monitoring EU approximation process
Group work on Turkey’s most important environmental problems and how EU candidacy can support environmental work of CSOs
Channels NGOs can intervene in the approximation process and the relations with the EU during their country’s candidacy
Both first and second days of the Training Program, sessions on the presentation of good examples from Turkey were organized. Gökmen Argun from UNDP GEF SGP, Neslihan Özgüneş from TACSO Turkey, Seda Orhan from Naturefriends International and İlge Kıvılcım from İktisadi Kalkınma Vakfı were present at these sessions to share information and their experience.
There was also a special session delivered by Kenan Doğan from TEMA Foundation on the identification of Turkey’s environmental problems and the EU environmental acquis. Proceedings from this session will be made available online.
ENV.net have just launched call for applications to the e-learning course “Social media, activism and participation“.
This course provides support to CSOs that would like to start or improve their communication strategy through the use of social media. It helps in understanding how to use the most common social networks, like twitter, facebook, and linkedin and provide step-by-step suggestions to organise on-line petitions or campaigns.
The course is delivered through the on-line platform Forma.lms. It is divided into three modules:
The first module explains how to create a social media strategy and introduces participants to social media concepts and tools.
The second module guides participants to practically work on the most known social networks, such as twitter, facebook linkedin and youtube.
The last module focuses on the creation of proper on-line campaigns by using tools, like Twibbon, Donate your account and Thunderclap or creating and sending newsletter through mailchimp.
This is an on-line self-learning course and offers high degree of flexibility to participants who are free to follow the lessons at any time, but are requested to complete the course within its global duration of 15 days. The average duration of the course is 3 days.
The course is in English and it is free of charge.

Once chosen the course from the course catalogue, this will be accessible from the first day of the course duration.
On 30th of April, ENV.net project awarded a sub-grant to the Centre of Media Activities.
The Centre for Media Activities from Skopje, that is running the platform of activism and that is issuing the street paper “Lice v lice”, is calling citizens to participate in the call for creative works (posters, photos, drawings, digital art…) “Face to face with my environment”. The works should represent the citizen`s reactions to the environmental issues, towards building a better and greener society.
The deadline is 9th of June and it is aimed to all citizens that are enthusiastic and proactive and that are willing to create works and to contribute to raising environmental awareness.
All the works should be sent via mail to licevlice@cma.mk, not later than June 9th 2014, in print resolution (at least 300 dpi). Along with the work, the participants to this call should also send a short info about the specific work, as well as their name and telephone contact. The call applies to all the citizens of Republic of Macedonia.
The first selection of the works (selected by jury) will be announced on June 11th on the fb page of Lice v lice. After this, the citizens, fb users will vote for the best three works – by liking their favourites.
The final selection will be part of an exhibition that will be opened in July in Skopje, and they will be published in the 11. edition of the street paper.

On 22nd and 23rd of May, ENV.net partners met in Milan for the development of the second phase strategy (next 2 years) of ENV.net project.
In the first day we focus the discussion on results achieved so far and experience gained for the first phase of the project. Then all partners worked hard to identify lessons learnt, new priorities and possible activities to achieve tangible results within the end of the 4-year project period
Moreover group works have been organised with Mr Ian Baker for the mid-term evalutation of ENV.net project.
It was a fruitful experience that allows ENV.net to define the long-term strategy and possible impact in the next 2-year project phase.

Project “School Energy Efficiency Standard” implemented by Milieukontakt in Albania, started its activities in the preselected school “Xhezmi Delli” of education hours in energy efficiency, and established the working group of students who will contribute on the process of energy audit in their building.
In the framework of the project “School Energy Efficiency Standard” implemented by Milieukontakt International, Albania in Tirana as sub-grant, during the month of April and beginning of May, it was started the preparatory phase of the project. Through the collaboration and consensus of the Ministry of Education and Sport and the Regional Directorate of Education in Tirana, there has been selected the school “Xhezmi Delli” to develop all the project activities, as the education hours on energy efficiency, audit of the energy performance of the school, inspection of the lamps in the and replace them with LED lamps as following, open activity in the school on practical tips on energy efficiency.
